Record Number of Cases Again
It was another day of record case numbers in the U.S., when John’s Hopkins University released data reporting 37,077 new cases on Thursday. The coronavirus, to date, has infected over 2.4 million and killed more than 124,000 nationwide. Thursday’s all-time high tops the previous record of 36,291, set back on April 24th. As a result of the spike in cases, some states, like Texas, are pausing their original reopening plans. Governor Abbott of Texas also issued an order for hospital beds to be made available for the anticipated influx of COVID-19 patients, fearing the worst with the recent increases. Florida and California also reported record increases in infections. Both Governor DeSantis of Florida and Governor Newsome of California have paused any further reopening plans as reported cases continue to rise.
